If you were not aware, there is a brand new course is going in at Howell Road Park in Perinton. Its design is being spearheaded by Jason Rocks Phelps, co-designer of Shadow Pines, a course that’s currently ranked #1 most played course in NYS.  You can Howell Road Park on UDisc here.

As of September 1st, with special thanks to Dave Copp, Brad Pfrommer, and Jason Rock Phelps, eight playable holes are set up on the east side of the park. Each hole has a basket in place except Hole #8, which has not yet been installed.  Instead of permanent tee pads, you will find temporary-marked tees at each hole for now.

Two layouts available on UDisc:

  • Short layout – Recommended for your first round. Paths between holes are clearer and easier to navigate.

  • Long layout – More challenging, but some holes currently lack defined passageways, making navigation tricky. Be careful of people throwing!

Conditions on the Course

Expect a very rough playing environment at this early stage. Trails and fairways are still being cut, and amenities such as signage and tee pads are not yet in place. The course is playable, but it’s clearly a work in progress.  Because of this, players are asked to refrain from leaving ratings on UDisc until the course is more developed. Early reviews could give a false impression of what will eventually be a polished and complete course.

Future Expansion Plans

The good news is that this is just the beginning. Plans to build the back nine holes on the west side of the park across the street will happen in the near future, thanks to the town. When complete, Howell Road Park will offer a full 18-hole course for the community.

For now, enjoy testing out the first eight holes, get a preview of what’s to come, and support the ongoing development of this new addition to the Rochester-area disc golf scene.  Be sure to post your pics!
